The Experiences Worth Investing In
by Morgan K. Robertson
Have you ever had one experience that quietly changed the way you looked at your life?
For me, it happened during what seemed like a simple walk with my women’s ministry group from National Harbor to the Virginia and Maryland state line. On the surface, it was exercise, fellowship, and fresh air. Looking back, it became something much more.
Crossing that state line felt like crossing into a new season.
It reminded me that growth often begins with one small decision to step outside our comfort zone. That walk also marked a personal return to a healthier lifestyle I had started years ago. It wasn’t about how far I walked. It was about deciding to move forward again.
Sometimes the experiences worth investing in aren’t the ones with the biggest price tag. They are the ones that change us.
Perhaps that’s a weekend road trip with your closest friends. Maybe it’s finally taking yourself on the birthday getaway you’ve always imagined. It could be exploring a charming town just a few hours from home or booking the trip you’ve postponed for years to places like Italy, Bali, Thailand, the Maldives, or Paris. The destination matters, but what matters even more is who you become because you were willing to go.
Travel has a unique way of stretching us. It introduces us to different cultures, different perspectives, and sometimes even different versions of ourselves. It reminds us that there is still more to discover, not only in the world around us, but within ourselves.
The older we become, the easier it is to convince ourselves that we’ll travel “one day,” try something new “next year,” or wait until life slows down. Yet some of the most meaningful memories are created when we simply decide to say yes.
Yes to the invitation.
Yes to the adventure.
Yes to stepping outside what feels familiar.
The experiences worth investing in are rarely measured by airline miles or passport stamps alone. They are measured by the confidence we gain, the memories we create, the people we meet, and the person we become along the way.
Sometimes growth begins with a plane ticket. Sometimes it begins with a road trip. And sometimes, it begins with a single walk across a state line.
Whatever your next experience may be, don’t wait for the perfect time. Invest in the moments that help you grow, because long after the journey ends, the person you become is the greatest souvenir you’ll ever bring home.
