The Beauty in Choosing You
“Choosing yourself means finally putting your needs before the needs of other people who don’t value you. It means putting boundaries in place that protect you and your mental health.” ~ Charlotte Freeman (excerpt from This Was Meant to Find You)
The beauty in choosing you is liberation, but it starts with a shift in the mind. Choosing you will require bold moves that some within your circle may not understand, but it leads to a path of holistic living and a peace that only comes with intentional moves.
I know all too well the importance of choosing you. I’ve recently had to choose my mental health and purpose over making life easier and convenient for others. This required me to walk away from a place of complacency and familiarity. A place that was gradually chipping away at my confidence, self-esteem, and peace. All of these were on the line. Know that in writing this article, I am speaking from personal experience in hopes that this will encourage and inspire you to evaluate where you are in life.
In choosing yourself, you become better positioned to be helpful to others as you become stronger mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Unfortunately, many believe you should pour into others to the point where you are trying to pour from an empty vessel. This is not beneficial to you or to those you are called to serve because not everyone is your assignment, and every function does not require your presence.
The beauty in choosing you is not about shutting everyone out and living a life of selfishness, but self-care and self-respect, starting with how you treat yourself. So, make the move, spend time resting, relaxing, healing, and praying. Mental health is just as important as your physical health.
Women, choosing you will require you to set boundaries, separate yourself from what no longer serves your God-given purpose, and unapologetically choose you.
You are not selfish, you are wise. Welcome to your new chapter entitled “The Beauty of Choosing You”.
