Put Some Sauce on It!

Hot Sauces

The holidays are literally around the corner and whether you’re hosting or attending a gathering where a meal is being served, condiments could be an indispensable component to keep in mind. When you sit down to eat a delicious meal, you taste the food and decide this needs a little something else; then reach for condiments like Ketchup, Barbeque sauce or hot sauce. These are traditional American favorites, but trying something new continues to develop your palate in addition to creating fond food memories with loved ones. Some sauces that are becoming more widely known are hot honey and buffalo ranch dressing — and both are delicious on fried chicken tenders.

Another condiment like chili oil has resurfaced and is gaining popularity outside of its origin Chinese community. Naturally, your next question is likely, “What’s in it?” The base of chili oil is really quite simple: vegetable oil and crushed red pepper. Other seasonings can be added like Sichuan peppers, garlic, ginger and paprika.

Frequently Asked Question: “What do I eat chili oil on?” Great question! The answer is everything!  Chili oil is not an intense heat, it’s a mild spice that enhances savory flavors and desserts. A few ideas to start with are scrambled or fried eggs (because breakfast for dinner is a thing), pizza or ramen will all be a mouthwatering meal topped with a new favorite condiment.

Trying these sauces won’t be hard when you can pick them up in your local grocery store, and if you find that you love one or all, try your hand at making it.
