Rooted in Grace that Builds a Healthy You

by Rita J. Taylor

Being rooted is foundation to anything that grows, but the foundation or soil must be healthy and properly prepared for the seed to see growth. As it is with the soil, so it is with you. What you allow to take root in you will determine what springs forth out of your life.

Grace is easily shown to others but we oftentimes struggle with showing that same grace to ourselves. Building a healthy you starts with yourself before it can begin with anyone else. Over time being hard on yourself can begin to show up in how you see yourself, how you enter rooms, how you interact with others, what you speak about yourself, and in your level of confidence.

You start to compare and question if you have what it takes because the perfectionist in you struggles with handling things that are beyond your control. However, I want to remind you that you do not have to have it all together. Give yourself space to make a mistake, to not be as far along as you think you should, forgive yourself for making the wrong decision because it’s a part of growing pains, and this is what being rooted in grace begins to look like.

Life provides many opportunities for learning and when you embrace the same grace you give others you begin to flourish from a place of health and seeing yourself from a healthy place. You are fearfully and wonderfully made and God had your mistakes, your shortcomings, and all in mind when He made you, but He still sees you as fearfully and wonderfully made. It does not take away from you being the great creation you are.

I want to challenge you to be mindful of how you speak over your life, especially in those moments where things don’t go as planned or when your progress in life isn’t as you feel it should be. Write out affirmations that build you up and confirm what God has already said about you. Give yourself grace just as you would someone else and remember a healthy you starts with you and how you see yourself.
