Giving Yourself Grace to Grow
The art of giving yourself grace begins with giving yourself space to be perfectly human in all your human imperfections. ~ Louise Gallagher
We are not perfect. However, the expectations we place on ourselves are often those of perfection, which can lead to exhaustion, frustration, and feelings of defeat. Today, I hope to encourage you to give yourself grace to grow by being kind to yourself.
Living in an imperfect world and an imperfect body, you will not always get it right, and that is okay. Life’s journey is about failing, falling, leaning, and growing. I personally understand those days when you feel like you are defeated and unaccomplished because your plans didn’t go as you envisioned, but in those moments, remember to be kind to yourself.
The blessing and beauty in life is that by the grace of God, we get do-overs. We get another opportunity to get up and try it again.
Children have periods of growth; some grow faster than others, but the process is still taking place. During the period of growth comes growth pain; it doesn’t feel good, but it is a part of maturation.
Giving yourself grace to grow is not always easy, especially for the perfectionist, but hopefully, some of the tips below will assist you on the journey.
When feeling overwhelmed, step back and reset.
Don’t compare your journey to someone else.
Work on not overextending yourself.
Understand your God-given purpose.
Prioritize. Everything and everyone can’t be at the top of the list.
Embrace change. Oftentimes, giving yourself grace to grow is not a matter of rearranging things, but rather eliminating some things. Knowing what to release and change in your life and doing it is growth.
As you get older and continue to experience all that life has to offer, you will learn not to take everything so seriously. That same grace you are willing to extend to others, make sure you give yourself some as well.
