5 Industries Where Women are Making Waves in 2024

Women make up half the world’s population, and rank among the movers and shakers. They’re making waves in various industries, no longer confining themselves to conventional gender roles. Yet their down-to-business nature leaves little time for boasting — it’s up to others to toot their horns and honor their achievements.

What does the coming year hold in store, and who drives innovation and change? Here are five industries where women are making waves in 2024.

Holistic Health

Holistic health goes beyond diagnosis by digging into underlying disease causes. It examines multiple factors such as diet and lifestyle, and considers modern stressors like systemic poverty and discrimination.

One leader making waves in this field is Dr. Tamika Henry, M.D., a functionally-trained physician and the Founder of the Unlimited Health Institute. She explains, “I can relate to the multitude of stressors that can hit a person on a daily basis.” Dr. Henry advises proactive measures to protect well-being, such as taking care of your diet and scheduling time for relaxation and exercise.

Food and Restaurants

Women have long been the family cooks but gotten little recognition as chefs. Some are changing this dynamic, even in predominantly male-oriented cultures.

For example, Peru’s Chef Pia Leon recently won the distinction of the best female chef in the world with her Peruvian fusion meals mixing regional ingredients like quinoa with French and Spanish cooking techniques. Thinking outside of the box with unusual combinations like gnocchi on kebabs lets her cook sustainably while delivering outstanding flavor.

Construction

Do you think you’re tough? It takes plenty of grit to be one of the only female Palestinian engineers on one of USAIDs and Anera’s project sites in Gaza, but that’s the role 27-year-old Mandy Abu Kombouz chose. Her mission is to show people women can be as good as their male counterparts and aims to break traditional gender roles so all can realize their potential.

Education

Women have historically served as educational leaders. They encourage the next generation to reach for the stars while standing as bulwarks against the dehumanization typical of modern society.

For example, Kristi Messer, Assistant Dean of Bachelor’s Education at the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine, states, “The healthiest, most sustainable, and most effective way to influence is to love and support those we lead.” She believes how you honor the self creates your outward reality and in nurturing the individual learner, not solely focusing on metric outcomes.

Computer Science

The tech industry seems natural for easing gender disparities, but discrimination remains one of the primary reasons women leave the field. However, creating a more positive workplace culture requires their involvement and leadership, so kudos to those brave pioneers who stay in the game and, in doing so, create a more even playing field for everyone.

For example, Archie Deskus recently earned the role of Chief Technology Officer at PayPal. She previously served as their Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer. Archie had to overcome her own father’s vision for her future and aims to inspire other women to reach for their dreams despite their challenges.

Industries Where Women Rule in 2024

Women contribute equally to human achievement but rarely receive the accolades their male counterparts demand. It’s up to the other ladies to honor their accomplishments. Looking at these female leaders for inspiration shows women excel in multiple industries.
